Blog

After a relaxing week away in The New Forest, we were back in the swing of things this week. Lets take a look at some of the motorcycles we welcomed through our doors this week.

Monday

We were back in the workshop on Monday after a lovely break in The New Forest. We have now started our autumn/winter projects which tend to be regeneration’s, wiring and longer projects with multiple elements to them.

Daniel has started his autumn/winter projects with a CCM GP450. The GP450 has joined us for clutch and engine servicing, fork seals, re-grease the headstock bearings, powder coat luggage racks and most importantly a complete front end change.

The nose of the GP450 is being removed and a full rally tower and road map scroller system added. As the tower is not specific for the GP450, this will entail some fabrication to attach it safely.

Once the tower and associated parts are fabricated, welded and powder coated, Daniel will then be wiring up the entire front end to accommodate all of the new elements required.

Over on the other ramp Oaklie started the final stages of the Honda Fireblade regeneration while we await the fairings return from paint.

Oaklie fitted the newly powder coated engine casings, completed the engine service, re-sprayed the radiator and acid etched the exhaust headers.

Tuesday

Back in black on Tuesday.

First up we welcomed a BMW S1000XR Triple Black for annual servicing.

Next up we welcomed back a regular Honda VFR800 for a rear hub strip/clean/re-grease, rear brake pads, chain/sprockets and an MOT.

Next up we welcomed back another regular customers BMW R80. Our customer let us know that the BMW had caught a cold on starting. Under investigation it was found that the throttle and choke cables had nearly frayed through. New cables are now on order.

We also welcomed a very clean Triumph Sprint to the workshop. The Sprint had broken down when the electrics had started to fail. Under investigation it was found that the stator had failed. We are still waiting on a decision from our customer as to how he would like to proceed.

Wednesday

A mixed bag for a Wednesday.

First up we welcomed back a regular Suzuki SV650 for a new chain and sprocket.

Next up a lovely BMW K1600GT which is another great sale from DJK Motorcycles Ltd. The BMW joined us for pre-sales servicing and a new battery.

Next up a BMW 9T which is currently for sale at DJK Motorcycles Ltd The 9T joined us for pre-sales checks and a new front tyre.

Thursday

A Japanese theme to the workshop on Thursday.

First up we welcomed back a Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX for its Annual Service.

Next up we welcomed a Honda CBR600RR to the workshop. Our customer advised that he had recently purchased the CBR and on its maiden voyage it broke down.

A recovery agent ‘bodged’ a repair and our customer was able to ride the bike home. When our customer booked the bike in with us, he advised that the recovery agent had thought it may have been a fuse and had replaced something under the seat. Our customer also said he could hear something whirring when riding.

When the bike arrived Daniel observed how ‘fluffy’ it sounded.

At receipt we lifted the tail section and found …. well, we are not quite sure. The recovery agent had removed a large household fuse from what looks like a home fuse box. He had then bypassed it with a thick gauge wire to get the bike running.

Daniel then test road the bike and could feel a vibration through the bike. He also noted that the suspension was very stiff. We then set to task with a nose to tail safety check to make any observations about the bike.

On closer inspection, someone had extended the main chassis earth adding this fuse set up and running it back round to the negative side of the battery.

We then removed the entire added in electrical section and reset the idle to 1400 (it was set at 750!) We then checked the chain which had the biggest tight spot we have seen in a while and we also noted that the tyres were 2011 and 2016 and badly out of shape.

Having contacted our customer with our initial findings, he authorised a new chain/sprockets and a new set of Dunlop Sportsmart Mk4 tyres.

Once the parts arrived we tidied up the wiring under the seat, replaced the chain/sprockets and tyres and completed an annual service.

Friday

On Friday Daniel continued with the CCM GP450 and Oaklie completed the work on the Honda CBR600RR.

We then welcomed a regular Triumph Speed Triple for its annual service and MOT.
