BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, CCM, Ducati, Suzuki all at mono motorcycles this week.

Blog

It has certainly been a busy here at mono motorcycles. With the beginning of the week having been a little on the warm side, we have all managed to keep our cool with plenty of fans and staying hydrated.

Here is a snapshot of some of the motorcycles we have welcomed through our doors this week.

Monday

Monday was a very busy day and a hot one to boot.

First up we welcomed a regular Ducati Multistrada for a pre-tour check and firmware update on the quickshifter.

Next up Oaklie got to grips with a full service on another regular, a Yamaha YZF125.

While Oaklie worked on the YZF, Daniel put a Honda VFR800 on the ramp. The VFR was with us to assess a power drain and fluid leak. Under investigation the fluid leak was found to be coming from the front master cylinder.

The power drain was found to be a combination of the stator not putting out enough power, the battery not being very robust and the stator and reg/rec not being genuine Honda parts.

Once we spoke with our customer he authorised new parts and the VFR was completed later in the week.

Next up we welcomed a Honda CBR500x for fitting a bar and daytime running lights and then Oaklie moved on to a Honda CB125F for a safety check and new tyre. Another great sale for @ DJK Motorcycles Ltd

In between all of this we received several visitors , undertook 3 MOT’s all while ensuring all of the fans were on and we are all staying hydrated.

Tuesday

34°C in the workshop today and that was with every fan on and a small air con unit 😊

Anyhoot, we were still busy bees on Tuesday, just being mindful of staying hydrated with regular mini breaks.

So today we welcomed a Suzuki V-Strom for a Major Service.

Daniel was busy ordering parts, undertaking MOT’s and making sure our completed bikes have their road tests.

Daniel then moved on to a CCM R30 Supermoto which came to us with a running fault. The CCM would cut out while riding and then start up again after a few minutes.

Daniel started testing the bike and one of the many tests was to check the valve clearances. Daniel found that all of the valve clearances were completely closed. This makes the compression low making it difficult to start and stall when hot.

Daniel then balanced the carbs and took the bike for a spin.

Wednesday

A busy day of catching up and smaller jobs in between.

First up we welcomed a Kawasaki Z1000SX for a safety check and MOT.

Next up we welcomed back a Triumph Tiger XCX to have the replacement baffles fitted.

Oaklie then carried on with some of DJK Motorcycles sales bikes including a Honda Hornet, while Daniel carried on with the CCM R30.

Following on from yesterday’s updates about the CCM R30 valve clearances, the bike was still not right. Once he took a look at the wiring it then made more sense. The wiring had been ‘tampered’ with shall we say and Daniel had to make several repairs to wires not being connected and tape being used to hide poorly repaired plugs and connections.

We then welcomed a Kawasaki ZZR1400 for a rear tyre replacement. During the process we noted some anomalies whereby a previous owner had been using building bolts rather than mechanical bolts to fix the dog legs and calipers! Not ideal. We are now going to put together a repair package for our customer.

Thursday

People often ask us if we work on BMW’s. Yes we do. However, what we don’t expect is for two different model BMW’s to join us in the same week with exactly the same fault.

Today a BMW R1200RS joined us for servicing, fitting a Denali Sound Bomb and to check why the bike was in limp mode.

Under investigation, just like the R1200GS earlier in the week, the 1200RS has a failed cam shaft sensor.  We have now put this on order and will complete the BMW early next week.

Today Daniel put the CCM R30 though an MOT. Bearing in mind that we had focussed our attention on a running fault at the front end of the bike and Daniel had already ridden it.

Under the scrutiny of an MOT and with the bike jacked up to check the rear wheel, it was found that the shock absorber eyelet which attaches the shock to the bike was broken in half! This is a dangerous fail on an MOT.

Daniel also found that the front wheel bearing has excessive play in it, the headlight main beam is not working, the rear shock has an excessively worn bush in it and the rear indicators are insecure. Our customer has been informed.

Friday

Today we welcomed a Triumph Tiger XC 800 to the workshop. The Tiger joined us to assess a charging fault and to undertake a safety check.

Next up we welcomed a BME nineT. The nineT joined us for an annual service and a flapper delete.
