Great rides & fantastic food. Biking inspiration for a sunny weekend.

Date: 19 Apr 2019

Looking for somewhere different to ride to, with great food & drink at every destination? Then read our blog from the Easter weekend to gain some inspiration.

Daniel & Katy are big
fans of getting out in to the countryside for riding & think nothing of
heading out of a morning, to return in the early evening with a full day’s
riding in between. However, we are also riders who do like to eat good food
& visit lovely cafes along the way.

Friday 19th April

What a glorious day to
be riding a motorcycle! We were out in the sunshine with great friends on their
Ducati Diavel & we took Big Blue (ZZR1200) as she really can handle the
miles in comfort. We headed out in the country lanes from our workshop in Funtington,
right up through Hampshire & on to Aldershot. Our first stop was the annual
Wheels Day in Aldershot, a vast gathering of American & European classic
cars. The sun was shining & the riding there was glorious.

After we had sated ourselves
with beautiful machines from the bygone age, we headed off towards Haslemere,
again taking the most indirect, beautifully leafy route we could. We stopped
off for tea and cake at one of our favourite stops, Hemingways in Haslemere.
They have the most divine selection of cakes & a wide variety of sandwiches,
panini’s, salads & light lunches on offer, all freshly prepared for you
while you sit in their gloriously relaxing Café, full of Tibetan inspired décor.
Hemingways cater for all dietary requirements & always have a great
selection of GF, vegan & vegetarian options, alongside meat options. Hemingways of Haslemere

Saturday 20th April

Another glorious day for
getting out on the country roads. The morning followed the theme for the
weekend of eating cake. Daniel & Katy attended the Portsmouth Vegan
Festival Portsmouth Vegan
Festival
in the morning, taking advantage of the outstanding array of
vegan fayre on offer. Delicious!

We then took Big Blue (ZZR1200) up to Frensham Ponds, Surrey Hills. Frensham Ponds (the big pond) has a full sandy beach alongside a fresh water lake. The roads there are considerably twisty & not always the best conditioned tarmac. However, it is still a stunningly beautiful ride with breath taking views. When we got there at about 4.30pm, there were still families & children with their buckets & spades enjoying a day at the ‘beach’ in the middle of the Surrey hills! The café has a good selection of food on offer, with a great ice cream selection too. Definitely a great country ride destination.

Easter Sunday

Another sensational day to be a biker. We started the day with good friends Sam, Glen & Tara & headed to The Departure Lounge Cafe, Basingstoke The Departure Lounge Cafe for an excellent breakfast. Then a ‘leisurely’! ride on the BMW S1000RR, KTM RC8 & Triumph 765 RS through the stunning Hampshire country roads, landing at The Aero Cafe in the control tower at Goodwood race track for tea. We then went & picked up Katy’s AJS Cadwell & took a spin up to the Petersfield Lake for tea & cake at The Plump Duck Café. Such a beautiful day, time spent enjoying the sun with our beloved bikes, great company & glorious sunshine.

Easter Monday

Bank holiday Monday delivered
another fantastic day to be able to get out & ride. We road about 170 miles
with some of good friends & Big Z (ZZR1400), Big Blue (ZZR1200), the Dark
Ducati Diavel, The Gorilla Bike (VMAX) Pan-European & Aprilia.

We started at the mono
motorcycles workshop at about 10.00am & headed off again taking the country
lane route with a pit stop at one of our favourite places, Billy’s on the Road,
Billingshurst Billy’s On The Road  Billy’s on the Road has the very best breakfast, lunch
& afternoon treat selection & is a regular destination.

We then took a stunning
ride into East Sussex, taking in the stunning green countryside of Sussex. Our destination
was the The Custom Cafe The Custom Cafe in Bexhill on Sea. As it was a Bank Holiday,
they had a BBQ & live music on offer for everyone who arrived. Their normal
menu was on hold for the day, as they had the BBQ set up in the garden. However,
the atmosphere was fantastic & we also found that they have one of the P
& D Custom Bikes motorcycles in pride of place in their window.

(Both Billy’s & Custom Cafe have a great menu, with all food choices
covered, including GF, vegetarian & vegan.)

After listening to live music at The Custom Cafe from ‘Vexed’
while lying in the glorious Bank holiday sunshine, we all headed up to The
Devils Duke The Devils Dyke Pub above
Brighton for ice cream, surrounded by phenomenal views.

A quick pit stop at Whiteway’s Café at Bury Hill on the way home & a brilliant weekends riding came to a close. Daniel & Katy covered about 500-600 miles in four days, with plenty of amazing scenery, delicious food & brilliant company with great friends.

Biking means so many different things to so many different people. Some are lone riders, others have a need for speed & some enjoy the leisurely pace of their big V-Twin’s. But for us, nothing beats getting out on the bikes, with the sun on faces, the beauty of the British countryside & great food along the way.

Happy riding everyone. All the best, Daniel & Katy.
