Honda, CCM, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph, Yamaha and Aprilia. Variety is the spice of life!

Blog

An eclectic and varied week at mono motorcycles. Let’s take a look at some of the motorcycles and projects which have joined us this week.

Monday

No, you are not seeing double.

On Monday we welcomed back father and son’s Honda CBX 500’s for their annual servicing.

We also welcomed a very colourful Suzuki Bandit 1200 for some assessments and repairs.

The Bandit’s No3 exhaust was getting hot. We had been asked to balance the carbs, but once the Bandit had bene run, we knew we would need to take the carbs apart.

During our assessments of the carbs, we found several very small washers inside the carb rubbers.

Once we had stripped the carbs completely, we found all of the jets were blocked and there was a small amount of water in one of the float bowls.

Having completely rebuilt the carbs and refitted, it was at this point that we identified an air leak.

The intake manifold rubbers have perished and need replacing. This one is ongoing.

Tuesday

A busy Tuesday.

On Tuesday we welcomed back a regular to the workshop, the very tidy Honda VFR750. The VFR joined us for annual servicing and an MOT.

Next up we welcomed back another regular, the Honda Africa Twin. The Africa Twin joined us for an annual service, MOT and new rear tyre.

We also welcomed a lovely Yamaha MT09 to the workshop for some new tyres.

On Wednesday afternoon another very regular visitor joined us – the KTM 790 Adventure. Fresh from a several thousand-mile trip to and from Portugal, the KTM joined us for post tour checks, servicing, change of tyres – back to Dunlop Trailmax Raids – checking all the fluids, lubrication and adjusting the chain, cleaning and re-oiling of filters, check leaking fork seal and an MOT.

While Oaklie cracked on with the work in the main workshop, Daniel was back on the CCM GP450 on the project ramp.

The CCM GP450 rally tower is starting to take shape and the additional brackets (thank you Ben at BM Fabrications) required to attach and strengthen the rally tower are all coming together. Next part of the transformation is to mount the lights then Daniel can tackle the wiring.

Wednesday

Catch up day today at mono motorcycles.

First up we welcomed a Honda SH300 for an annual service. Upon arrival our customer advised that his RH heated grip cable seemed loose and asked us if we could take a look.

Under investigation it was found that the grip was loose, the cable had wrapped around the grip and pulled the wires out of the back.

Oaklie removed the fairing, re-glued the grip and re-connected the heated grip wiring.

Next up Oaklie fitted the choke/throttle cables to the BMW R80 which joined us last week and then he moved on to the KTM 790 Adventure fork seals and other post tour checks/repairs.

Daniel was in the MOT bay in the morning and then had a series of test rides to undertake. Then he was back on to the CCM GP450 project and making headway on fitting the new lights into the rally tower and headlight assembly.

Thursday

A busy Thursday here at mono motorcycles.

First up we welcomed a lovely Triumph Scrambler 1200 for an annual service, fitting of chain/sprockets and an MOT.

Daniel welcomed a Yamaha MT09 to the workshop today for fitting of crash bars and installation of Denali spotlights. The transformation to the bike is fantastic.

While Daniel got to grips with the MT09, Oaklie got the Triumph Sprint which joined us earlier in the week on the ramp.

We had already identified that the Sprint was not charging and have been waiting for a stator to arrive. However, during the MOT yesterday and when Daniel put the Sprint on a full lock while running, it cut out.

Under investigation it was found that the main plug from the ignition was very corroded. This was cleaned up and re-greased and now the fault has been repaired.

Oaklie carried out an interim service on the Sprint this afternoon and we have also changed the coolant as this was rusty! The new stator arrives on Friday.

Friday

Daniel is making great progress on the electrical part of the CCM GP450. As the bike runs multiple instruments Daniel is installing a Healtech Thunderbox to allow all of the connections to function correctly.

First thing on Friday Oaklie fitted a sump guard to an Aprilia Tuareg 660 and then he spent some time catching up with the Sprint and fitted the new stator.
