We shared Katy’s biking story for International Women’s Day 2025.

However, with an updated motorbike in her life we felt it was right to re-share for those who may not know so much about her and how her lifelong love of speed brought her and Daniel together and subsequently they started mono motorcycles together in 2017.

“I have been a petrol head since birth. With my Dad being a Chief Marshall at Cheltenham Motor Club I grew up with the smell of Castrol R in my nose and a thrill in my heart every time a motorbike or side car outfit would thunder past.

My Dad is 100% the reason I have been a lifelong petrol head, and we still share that passion to this day.

My Grandfather was a despatch rider in WW2 and a biker. Sadly, he was killed in a car accident when I was seven, so growing up I never got to share a mutual passion for all things fast with him.

I have been watching F1, MOTO GP and all manner of other car and motorcycle racing since I was a child. Sunday afternoons we would bundle around to my aunt and uncles house and while the dads, cousins and me were huddled around the TV watching motorsport, my mum and my aunts would be making us a post motorsport tea.

I grew up with the legendary Barry Sheene as one of my ultimate biking icons and subsequently Marco Simoncelli and now Christian Iddon in my adult years. Dad and Mum would also take my sister and me to motorbike and car racing meets throughout our youth and when we moved South, we would regularly head out to Thruxton every Easter for the Easter Bank Holiday racing.

I am now a huge British Superbikes fan and throughout the season you can either find me on the edge of my seat or shouting at the TV of a Saturday or Sunday afternoon as Daniel and I get our speed fix from watching the racing. I also try to get to at least one BSB meet a year as you cannot replicate the thrill of a motorcycle hurtling past you at nearly 200mph on TV.

Daniel and I met in 2016, and it was our mutual love of motorcycles and all things fast which brought us together. Apparently when I mentioned that I wished they made Castrol R perfume, he knew I was the woman for him.

Neither of us ever dreamed we would end up working together, but when we started mono motorcycles in 2017 and I subsequently joined the company full time in 2018, we knew it was the right choice for us both. We are now fulfilling our passion every day with mono motorcycles.


Despite being a lifelong petrol head, I didn’t own my first motorbike until December 2016 when Daniel bought me an AJS Cadwell 125 for Christmas. I had been entered for my CBT on December 31st, 2016. I passed my CBT and then I was on the road.

I spent the next two years learning the roads on my 125 and loved it. However, in the last six months of riding the AJS, I was most definitely out riding the bike and knew it was time for more.

Therefore, in late 2018 Daniel purchased me a Suzuki SV650 from a friend of his, but it wasn’t until July 2019 that I finally took the plunge and began the process of getting my full licence.

My big bike test wasn’t all plain sailing as it took me four attempts to get through my Mod 1! Apparently, it is not uncommon. My Mod 2 however was a completely different matter and I breezed through it.

So, then I was ready to get my big bike on the road. However, as we were having a bespoke paint job completed by JAA Custom Paint; Daniel let me use his Triumph Street Triple RS to get me used to a bigger bike on the road.

Although the Triumph was very smooth and had all the bells and whistles, it was never my bike so I just couldn’t relax.

Once my SV was ready, it was time to get out on the road. However, one thing I found with the SV was the riding stance. My wrists took all my weight and after a while riding became uncomfortable.


Then one day Danny from DJK Motorcycles next door to us had a KTM 390 Duke come in. I really liked the look of it and when I sat on it, I could instantly feel how light it was and more importantly, how much I was sat upright.

I took the KTM out for a test ride and all my confidence came flooding back. We moved on the SV and the KTM joined the Mason/Morris stable.

My KTM served me well, but in 2025 and as we were then still part of the CCM network, I knew it was time to start looking for something new, something with a bit more oomph!                                                     

So, with CCM offering finance for the first time in their fifty-four-year history, I took the plunge at the end of February 2025 and put a deposit down on a brand-new CCM Bobber.

I took one out for a test ride and it really was great fun. The big 600cc single isn’t such a leap for me as the KTM is a single too.

I absolutely love my CCM Bobber and throughout summer 2025 I got out on it as much as I possible could.

I also decided to make some quite extensive modifications and thus far I have had the following installed:

  • motogagdet mo.blaze bar end indicators.
  • motogadget mo.view glassless bar end mirrors.
  • motogagadget Chronoclassic II digital dash using the mono motorcycles bespoke aluminium surround and new top yoke.
  • Renard Speed Shop momentary push switches, replacing the original switchgear.
  • motogadget mo.rear rear light set up.

Daniel has of course been the absolutely wizard who has installed this for me and it really has transformed the way my CCM behaves.

I cannot wait for the sunnier weather to return and to get back out on the bike and enjoy another year of fun and exploration.”
