mono motorcycles celebrates our first year at our workshop in Chichester.
What an eventful, albeit it chilly week at the mono motorcycles workshop. This week we celebrate a year at our workshop in Chichester.
The workshop has had a decidedly blue hue to it, as it has been dominated by the crisp ultramarine of a Kawasaki ZZR1200 & the deep velvety blue of the Yamaha VMAX.
The Kawasaki ZZR1200, which belongs to John, a friend & avid supporter of mono motorcycles, has been tucked up in a warm & dry garage for about 10 years. John, having been inspired by the mono motorcycles community, decided it was about time the ZZR1200 back on the road.
Therefore, as her battery was well & truly dead, mono motorcycles collected her & brought her to the workshop. As a passionate detailer, John’s dedication to preserving the immaculate paintwork most definitely showed, as the paintwork leapt to life when the ZZR was under the workshop lights
The first task was to remove the residual fuel from the fuel tank. Then the carbs were removed, stripped cleaned & refitted. As the motorcycle had been inactive for so long, a full service was carried out, to ensure all the filters, liquids & moving parts were in tip top condition. With a brand new set of tyres fitted & an MOT, which the ZZR1200 sailed through, the ZZR1200 was ready to be reunited with her owner.
The Yamaha VMAX joined us, as her owner Stu, friend & supporter of mono motorcycles, had noticed that at lower revs, the VMAX didn’t seem to be running correctly. Therefore, the initial instructions were to strip & clean the carbs & check the valve clearances.
During the initial road test Daniel noted the hesitation at idle, but also noted that the clutch was slipping in top gear. As always, we advised our customer of our findings & he agreed to have the works undertaken to replace the clutch kit.
Once the carbs had been completely stripped, ultrasonically cleaned & rebuilt, it was time to check the valve clearances. Thankfully, in this case, they were all within tolerance.
Therefore, once the valve cover gaskets had been replaced & the carbs refitted, it was time to fire her up & balance the carbs. As can be seen from the attached photos, the carbs were a little out initially & considerably more in tolerance once they had been balanced.
Once the new clutch kit was fitted, the VMAX was ready to be road tested. Unfortunately, due to the intensely cold weather & with snow on the ground; a full road test & getting the engine to temperature has not been possible as yet.
Another guest to the workshop this week was a Harley Davidson Roadtser. The Roadster joined us to have an LED number plate light wired up. Our customer was extremely happy that we had managed to help him with this task.

This Friday, 1st February 2019, saw a milestone for Daniel & Katy, as it was exactly a year ago today, that we collected the keys for the workshop. We look back at the photo’s of the stark empty space we moved in to & then the bustling & packed workshop we have today & feel a great sense of achievement for what we managed thus far.
However, mono motorcycles would not be the success it is today, with the support of our family, friends, customers & online supporters. mono motorcycles is a testament to the trust & belief you all have for us & we are forever grateful for your support, generosity of spirit & kindness.
To show our appreciation & to thank as many of you as we can in person, we are holding a ‘Thank You’ Open Morning on Saturday 9th February from 9am – 1pm. There will be free Tea/Coffee & cake for all attendees & an opportunity to help us celebrate the first year of the mono motorcycles workshop. We very much look forward to seeing you then.
As always, for all your motorcycling needs, contact Daniel or Katy on T: 01243 576212 / 07899 654446 or through our contact page.
