Summer is well and truly upon us and it’s riding season. Let’s check out some of the bikes which have joined us this week.

Monday

It’s been another busy and varied week here at mono motorcycles.

We kicked things off on Monday by welcoming a BMW K1200 in for a service and some troubleshooting on the ABS system. The owner recently had a scary moment on the road when the ABS light flashed on and they lost braking power completely.

When we plugged the bike into our TEXA diagnostics, it gave us a bizarre reading: it claimed the bike was doing 78kph with the brakes fully locked, even though it was sitting completely still on our ramp! We disconnected the rear wheel ABS sensor to see if that was the culprit, but the fault remained. It looks like the ABS unit’s motherboard has failed, so the customer is now looking into an ABS bypass option.

Next up, we had a double-bill of CCMs. The first, a Bobber, was in for its annual service, while the second—a CCM Six—needed a service and a thorough check-over after sitting idle for a while. We rounded off the day with an annual service on a Ducati Monster and spent the afternoon sorting through our stock of Royal Enfield parts and spares.

Tuesday

Tuesday turned into a bit of a Ducati day.

First, we had a regular’s Multistrada in for a pre-tour safety check. We spotted a tight spot in the chain and noticed the rear tyre was starting to square off and running low on tread. We’ll get those sorted early next week before they head off.

We also took in a gorgeous Ducati 848 that’s been off the road for a while. To get it back on the tarmac, we’ll be starting with a new battery, a full service, and fresh cambelts.

Wednesday

Wednesday was all about the commuters, keeping things practical with a Suzuki Burgman 400 in for its annual service and MOT, alongside a Honda PCX 125 for its yearly service.

Thursday

Thursday saw a real mix of shapes and sizes in the workshop.

We started with a Triumph Tiger Explorer needing new fork seals and an investigation into some overheating issues. Unfortunately, during its MOT we found the rear shock had zero damping left, which resulted in a fail. Our customer has now authorised a shock rebuild for the Tiger and we will start this process next week.

Meanwhile, Daniel got stuck into a Honda Blackbird with a frustrating, intermittent wiring fault. The bike was refusing to start, usually after cooling down for about half an hour. Since the Blackbird is a bit too old to plug into our TEXA diagnostics, this one came down to old-school detective work, experience, and intuition. Early signs point toward a failing crank or cam sensor.

We also welcomed back a Suzuki GSXS 125 for a new rear tyre, chain, sprockets, and an MOT.

Friday

We wrapped up the week on Friday, starting with a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 in for its 3,000-mile service, followed by an annual service on a KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

We had a proper “tyring” afternoon, fitting a new rear hoop to a BMW R1200RS and a fresh set of Dunlop GSR300s to a Ducati 695. To round off the day, we had a Harley Davidson Fat Bob in for some security updates, a KTM 690 Enduro with a non-start issue to diagnose, and a back-to-back run of MOTs to keep us on our toes.

Christmas has come early for Daniel as his brand new Yamaha XSR 900 GP arrived on Friday.

The PR7 is simple to sum up: it’s a proper off-road bike that is light, agile, and compact, yet comfortable enough to cover long distances with plenty of room for luggage. Ask anyone with off-road experience and they’ll tell you there is nothing quite like a single-cylinder engine on the dirt. It’s predictable, compact, and gives you instant response the second you twist the throttle. But the clever part here is how smooth and capable it is on the tarmac, with plenty of grunt to comfortably cruise at motorway speeds.

2. All test rides are road-only and accompanied by a mono motorcycles rider.

3. Riders must be over 25 and hold a full motorcycle licence for at least two years (we will need to take a copy of your licence before you head out).

4. You’ll need to provide your National Insurance number so we can run a quick DVLA check for points or disqualifications.

5. There is some quick paperwork to fill out beforehand, so please arrive 15 minutes before your slot.
