Triumph, CCM, Honda, BMW, Ducati, Kawasaki at mono motorcycles this week
It certainly has been a busy fortnight here at mono motorcycles. Let’s take a look at a snapshot of some of the motorcycles we have welcomed through our doors.
Triumph Bonneville 865 SE.
Last week we welcomed a Triumph Bonneville 865 SE for a full service and to assess an engine management light. The engine management light had been on since last summer and the bike did not lose performance.
Our first task was to run a TEXA diagnostic scan. The scan showed a fault code for the ambient air temperature sensor.
Once we had located the sensor and the sensor itself was tested, it was ascertained that the sensor was fine, it was the wiring to the sensor which was the problem.
We therefore had to unwrap part of the wiring loom to the ambient air temp sensor and tip over sensor to locate the broken wire. Diagnostic tools are fantastic for telling you where a fault is, but physically locating a broken wire is down to human investigation and visual assessment.
The wiring loom was unwrapped and the break in the loom was located. The earth wires to the ambient air pressure sensor and tip over sensor were then replaced. The loom was then re-wrapped and the rest of the full service was completed.

Honda Fireblade – recommission. The beginning.
Early last week we welcomed a Honda Fireblade to the mono motorcycles workshop which has been asleep for 16 years.
Our customer, who has owned the Fireblade since new, has now decided to bring her back to life and has asked us here at mono motorcycles to support him on that journey.
Daniels first job was to repair the HISS key wiring where someone had tried to steal the bike many years ago.
He then tried to get the filler cap open but despite having soaked it in GT85, it was seized shut. He therefore had to drill the filler cap off.
What liquid was left in the fuel tank was black and the fuel pump had been completely destroyed. The fuel pump body is no longer available so we will need to source an entire fuel pump.
Daniel then removed the air box and spark plugs, whilst also hoovering the bike of many cobwebs and plenty of dead spiders and evicting some which were still alive.
Having given the bike power, he was able to crank the engine over by hand and the oil pressure light went out. However, he couldn’t get a spark or switching.
Daniel then removed the connectors and relays and cleaned them. The bike now has spark.
At this point we contacted our customer with our initial findings and advised of the rather long list of parts required to bring the Fireblade back to life.
Our customer has now authorised the work and once we have sourced all the parts we need, the bike will be booked back in the diary in a couple of weeks’ time.
If you are considering a regeneration on any motorcycle, it is always an idea to consider your budget. For reference, the cost to bring this Fireblade back to life is in the thousands, not hundreds of pounds.

CCM GP450
You may remember a few weeks ago we welcomed a CCM GP450 to the mono motorcycles workshop which had snapped the piston, bent the conrod and pretty much obliterated the inside of the engine.
Our customer instructed us to source another engine which is no mean feat when the bike was only produced for 2 years.
We managed to source 1 of only 3 engines available through CCM Motorcycles and Oaklie then had the task of fitting the new engine in the bike.
It sounds so easy, but when you consider the number of connections, pipes, connectors and components which have to be connected, plugged in and refitted, it is many hours of concentrated work.
At the end of the day and with still some way to go, Oaklie got the new engine running which is fantastic.
Note: One of the CCM GP450 fuel tanks is under where the seat goes. We weren’t running it remotely as it is fuel injected.
Triumph Newchurch
At the beginning of this week (10.02.2025) we welcomed a Triumph Bonneville Newchurch to the mono motorcycles workshop.
The Newchurch joined us for a Full Service and an MOT.
February is now fully booked, and we are already booking into March. If you know your service is due or you need an MOT, please do book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

BMW R80, Ducati 600SS, Triumph Sprint, Suzuki GSX1400.
Up on the ramp on Tuesday we welcomed back the lovely BMW R80. The R80 has been owned by the same lady for over 30 years and is definitely a huge part of her story. The R80 joined us for an Interim Service and an MOT.

Next up we welcomed back a Ducati 600 SS. The 600 SS joined us for a full service, and to assess/repair the tacho and an MOT. The tacho cable was at fault here and we had to source one directly from Ducati.

Next up we have welcomed two great sales by DJK Motorcycles Ltd
The Triumph Sprint joined us for an Interim Service and an MOT and a Suzuki GSX1400 which joined us for a pre-sales check and an MOT.

Kawasaki Z750
When one thing turns into two.
Last Thursday (06.02.2025) as we were closing up, one of our regular customers arrived. He spoke to Katy and advised that since Monday the bike kept overheating. When we popped outside, we could clearly see why the bike was over heating as coolant was pouring all over the concrete.
With torch in hand, Daniel took a look and sure enough where the radiator was so old and the fins had collapsed, a stone had punctured the radiator.
We advised our customer to not ride the bike the next 5 miles home as we could simply not tell if the bike had any coolant left in it (the header tank is under the fuel tank).
Therefore, we ordered a new radiator and advised our customer that we would get on to it as soon as we could.
When Daniel got the bike up on the ramp to start to remove the radiator, unfortunately what couldn’t be seen was that the fan and casings had rotted away and broken away from the radiator.
As a new fan assembly is £600, we spoke to our customer and on this occasion we are sourced a SH unit from a breakers.

CCM Street Moto
On Wednesday we welcomed a stunning CCM Street Moto to the mono motorcycles workshop. The CCM Street Moto, with only 67 miles on the clock, joined us to drain the tank and flush the system through with Cataclean PowerShot Bike and carry out an Annual Service.
As an approved CCM Service and Repair Centre, we can carry out CCM service, repair and warranty work.
