Triumph domination, Harley motogadget, anniversaries, busy fortnight
Over the past two weeks the mono motorcycles workshop has been dominated by Triumphs.
We have also welcomed a wide variety of DJK Motorcycles Sale Bikes for servicing, a Harley Chop for motogadget wiring & we have celebrated Nathans’ 1st Year Anniversary.
Triumph Speed Triple 15th Anniversary Edition – Major Service
Last week we welcomed one of our regular customers Triumph Speed Triple 1050 15th Anniversary Editions. The Speed Triple joined us initially for supply & fit of Brembo front Pads, supply & fit of a gear indicator, Major Servicing including valve clearance checks & re-grease of single sided swinging arm (part of the Major Service on Speed Triple’s)
Once the Speed Triple was with us & Daniel commenced the initial checks & diagnostic scans; it was discovered that the Oxygen sensor had failed. After making contact with our customer, he authorised us to replace the sensor.
Part of Major Servicing for a motorcycle involves checking the valve clearances & to assess if they are in tolerance. If the valve clearances are not correct (either too wide or too tight) & shims have been damaged or worn; they will need replacing.
In the case of the Triumph Speed Triple, 3 inlet & 2 exhaust valves were too wide. This can cause an engine to rattle & lose performance. If the clearances had been too tight, it would have caused a misfire. The inlet & exhaust shims were replaced & the timing re-adjusted.
During the process of the Service & the additional repairs, our customer asked us to detail & ceramic coat the Speed Triple. Therefore, all in all the Speed Triple was with us for a week, with a considerable amount of work being undertaken & a variety of tasks been addressed.
Harley Davidson Chop – motogagdet
The mono motorcycles motogadget & wiring solutions took a new turn this week, when we upgraded & future proofed a stunning Harley Davidson Chopper.
Earlier this year we addressed some issues the owner was already having with the wiring causing the Harley to periodically break down.
With extremely limited space, Daniel initially moved all of the original wiring out of the way & removed the battery.
Daniel then set about making a bracket to mount the motogadget m.unit to. As you can see in the photographs, a lack of space was a challenge to insure all of the components would fit.
Having removed the original wires from the wiring loom, Daniel then re-routed the lighting & electrical circuits through the m.unit, creating a simpler & safer wiring loom to run the electrical circuitry.
With one momentary push switch installed on the side of the Harley to control the lights, the customer now has a safe sleek system installed on his motorcycle, which will preserve the integrity of the electrical systems for years to come.
Triumph Tiger – Major Service
The Triumph Tiger joined us for Major Servicing. When Daniel received the Tiger to the workshop & started to undertake initial checks & road tests; he noted that the Tiger was not revving up. Once he had plugged in the TEXA Diagnostic unit, his initial suspicions were confirmed & the TPS (throttle position sensor) had failed. The TPS provides direct digital signals to the fuel injection system.
Again, the customer was contacted to advise of the findings & he agreed to have the TPS Sensor replaced.
Once Daniel had got to check the valve clearances on the Tiger, he found that 4 of the clearances were too tight. If the clearances had been left like this, it would have ultimately caused a misfire.
With the shims replaced & the valve clearances checked again to ensure all were within tolerance, the rest of the service was competed & the TPS Sensor replaced.
Nathan’s 1st Year Anniversary.
Please join us in celebrating Nathan’s first year at mono motorcycles. Nathan joined us at the beginning of September 2020 & although he has grown up around bikes because of his Dad’s interests; he’d never really worked on bikes professionally before.
Over this past year Nathan has proved to be an adept problem solver, has a natural aptitude for wiring & electrical diagnosis & as of 1st September 2021, he was promoted to Junior Motorcycle Service Technician. Congratulations Nathan, we are very proud of you.
Triumph Speed Triple 1050
The second Triumph Speed Triple 1050 to join us this fortnight, joined us for annual servicing. While Nathan undertook the service, he found that the rear pads were on the metal & the front pads were getting low. Our customer agreed to have these replaced & Daniel completed the works on Thursday.
Triumph Speed Triple 1050 S
The third Triumph Speed Triple 1050 S joined us for front brake pad replacement, Servicing & arranging an MOT.
