Triumph, Ducati, Suzuki, Honda, Harley Davidson, Enfield @ mono motorcycles

As autumn creeps quietly into our lives, the leaves begin to turn brown & fall from the trees, we have had another super busy week here at the mono motorcycles workshop.

First up on the ramp this week we welcomed a Triumph Street Triple 675. The Street Triple joined us as a non-runner. Under diagnosis Daniel ascertained that the crank sensor had failed.

As can be seen from the photo’s, the stator was beginning to show signs of wear & tear, with a distinct heat pattern around one side of the windings. We have seen this same pattern on a few other 675’s of the same era in the past couple of years. Our customer gave us the go ahead to purchase a new crank sensor which comes with the stator & once this was fitted, the Triumph sprung back into life!

Second up this week, we welcomed a lovely Ducati Monster M900. The Monster belongs to a gentleman who has been unable to ride for 5 years & therefore the Ducati had been dry stored, oil & fuel free for that time.

Our customer is now in a position where he would like to recommission the Ducati & get her back on the road. Thus far with parts, new tyres, MOT & labour, the current total to get her back to being road legal & road worthy is in excess of £1000. Once we had let our customer know of our findings, he gave us a considerable payment towards parts & we now await their arrival next week.

If you are considering a custom project, motorcycle regeneration/recommission or resto-mod; then please do read our recent blog https://monomotorcycles.co.uk/thinking-of-a-motorcycle…/

On Tuesday morning we welcomed a cobalt blue Triumph Tiger XRT 1200 to the mono motorcycles workshop. The Tiger belongs to one of our returning customers, who is a huge supporter of mono motorcycles.

The Tiger joined us for SAT NAV, Battery maintainer & Heated Clothing connections. Daniel wired the sat-nav so it comes on & off with the ignition, added a cable for the customers heated jacket & a charge lead for the Noco battery maintainer.

Daniel got back on to the Harley Davidson Custom in the afternoon. The gear selector rod was too short & due to other modifications in the original build, was causing issues with the rider finding neutral. Therefore, Daniel began fabricating a new extended rod to fit correctly.

Wednesday was another busy day at the workshop. We welcomed a K3 Suzuki GSXR1000 which joined us for a full brake overhaul to include stripping, cleaning & rebuilding of the brake calipers, EBC brake pads & new discs. In addition to the brake overhaul, the K3 has also had an annual service & thorough check over.

Nathan has decided he would like to take his bike test. Therefore, we have given him the  Honda C90 which we purchased during lockdown & had sent down from Scotland & he will begin the process of not only getting it road worthy, but also understanding how it functions & how to keep it road safe & road worthy.

On Thursday Daniel returned to the Harley Davidson Custom which has a custom made gear lever, which clears the clutch cover & engages the gearing correctly.

On Thursday, Nathan began working on the Honda Hornet, sorting out new throttle cables. During the assessment of the Hornet we found that the clutch cable was dangerously damaged & sadly nowhere had any in stock until next week! Whereas we hoped this would be an MOT & returned to the customer in the same day, the Hornet will now be staying with us a little longer than anticipated.

While Nathan worked on the Hornet, Daniel got the Triumph Street Triple back up on the ramp to fit rear brake pads. Not much meat left on the original ones! (old pad on left of photo, new on right)

On Friday we were joined by a really clean Honda CB650R. The CB joined us for an 8K Annual Service & our first Winter Prep & ACF50 Treatment Valet.

As you know the Royal Enfield custom finally went home last week. The Customers representative has given us a glowing review & recommendation.

“Picked up the Royal Enfield this morning and wow what job!!!! This bike went to Daniel in a proper mess, after a few phone calls we found it needed ALOT more work. I left Daniel to work his magic and gave him the go ahead to do what would look best. It now runs and rides amazing, this just shows what can be done with a small team and good old British mechanics. Well done guys I look forward to sending more work/projects your way.”
