Triumph, Yamaha, Piaggio, Aprilia, BMW, Kawasaki, Honda at mono motorcycles this week.
It’s been a busy one here this week. Let’s find out more about some of the motorcycles which have joined us this week.
Monday
On Monday we welcomed a Honda Shiver to the mono motorcycles workshop for a Major Service. Our customer has taken advantage of the fact we are slightly quieter at this time of the year and is getting his bike ready for the year now.

We have also welcomed a Honda NC750 for pre-sales servicing and safety checks. Another great sale for DJK Motorcycles Ltd

Tuesday
Tuesday was a busy one.
So, we started with a Royal Enfield Himalayan which joined us for an Interim service and to assess a dent in the front wheel. Our customer has chosen to replace the front wheel with new.
Next up we welcomed a BMW F800GT for an Interim Service. We were also tasked with finding out where a considerable oil leak was coming from.
Under investigation there was a small hole found in the oil filter and the bottom of the bike was covered in oil. When Oaklie dropped the oil for the service, there was only about 1 litre remaining. The BMW has now had fresh new oil, and a new oil filter fitted.

Daniel also undertook an assessment on a Peugeot Moped. The moped did not seem to want to ride above 20mph. Under investigation it was found that the air box had been removed, the starter motor relay was in the wrong place, the throttle cabling was inoperative and there were electrical components which were arcing under the seat. Our customer has approved the repairs, and this has been re-booked until next week.
We then welcomed 2 KTM 125 Dukes.
The 2024 Duke joined us for a chain/sprocket change and to assess a non-crank at the start switch. Under investigation our TEXA diagnostic tool could not identify the fault, and this will therefore needs to go back to KTM as it should be under warranty.
The second KTM 125 Duke joined us for the first phase of some more extensive work. The 2021 plate bike joined us today for a Full Service and to replace the cush drive rubbers.
While the bike was with us it was noted it was hunting at idle. Under investigation it was found that in the process of fitting a new exhaust, the wires to the oxygen sensor had been damaged. The next phase will be chain/sprockets, brake pads and an Oxygen sensor.

Wednesday
We try to keep Wednesday’s as out catch-up day. Should we get a bike in on Monday which needs additional parts, we then know we have the appropriate hours available to re-book on the Wednesday.
Therefore, today Oaklie started by fitting the NOCO 1 Charger to the BMW F800 which was with us on Tuesday.
We then welcomed a regular visitor to the workshop in the shape of the Kawasaki Vulvan. Oaklie fitted new rear brake pads and adjusted the chain. The Vulcan is due to come back to us at the end of March for a Major Service, chain/sprockets and a new rear tyre.
Daniel took a look at the Kawasaki EX 250 K9F which joined us yesterday. Our customer had purchased the bike as a winter project and despite the fact that we know he is very knowledgeable about motorbikes, he just could not get the bike to fire.
Upon investigation the injectors were switching, but the bike would not fire. When Daniel took the fuel pump apart, he found that a very small seal – no bigger than 10mm – was missing from the bottom of the fuel pump. This wasn’t building any pressure and therefore once replaced, the bike started.
Next up Daniel got the fabulous Yamaha XS650 Tracker up on the ramp.
Early in 2024 Daniel completely rewired the XS using the Axel Joost B-Box. The bike then went home. However, our customer has been so busy throughout 2024 that he did not had a chance to finish the fettling himself. Therefore, this year the bike has returned for us to re-jet it, set it up again and get the bike running smoothly.

Thursday
One of our dear friends Yamaha V-Max was sounding a bit rough when it came in for a service & MOT. Therefore, Daniel set about setting the carb balance using his dSync tuning equipment. As you can see it was out a fair way. Running like a Swiss watch now though. It maybe 27 years old but it’s still stupidly quick.
We also welcomed a Honda CBF500 for a regeneration.
The CBF500 had been sat for about a year and our customer wanted to get the bike back on the road. Our customer had recently fitted a new battery.
Once we had drained the fuel and added fresh with a Cataclean PowerShot Bike fuel additive (available here for £12.00), the bike started but would not rev up.
Once we removed the carbs we found out why. Where fuel had been left in the bike for so long, it had gone stale and blocked all of the jets.
The carb bodies were stripped and ultrasonically cleaned and the jets were popped into diluted clock acid for cleaning.
Once the carbs were refitted the bike started and ran correctly.
The next phase is fork seals, new tyres and an MOT.

Thursday and Friday
Today we have welcomed a Kawasaki Z1000SX for a Full Service and Daniel is completing another round of electrical upgrades and additional off-road extras to the KTM Adventure R.
