We welcome BMW, Vespa, Triumph & Yamaha to mono motorcycles
An international flavour this week with BMW, Vespa, Triumph & Yamaha visiting the mono motorcycles workshop.
On Monday we welcomed a truly lovely Yamaha RD250 Air Cooled Twin to the mono motorcycles workshop.
The RD had been lovingly restored by her owner, however, despite a new loom having been fitted & electronic ignition; the RD had some wiring teething issues which were entrusted to the wiring whisperer Daniel Morris to address
Following an assessment & investigation, Daniel found that the fuse box & kill switch were wired incorrectly. He also found that two wires in the headlight were wired incorrectly. After re-wiring & mending the wiring loom; the lights, horn & brake lights now work & the fuse box is now wired correctly.
On Tuesday, we welcomed our good friends BMW GS R1250 for some professional detailing & TLC.
The results speak for themselves! Enjoy!
We also welcomed a Vespa Granturismo to the workshop on Tuesday. The Vespa had some running issues, including ‘bogging out’ under load.
We had already been advised by the customer that the carb had been off late last year & the performance had decreased afterwards.
Daniel had in his mind that the issue might have been linked to the automatic choke. Upon inspection & upon inspection, whereby the choke resistance should have been at 20 ohms, whereby the Vespa was at 5.9 ohms.
Once Daniel had removed the carb to assess if this was also contributory to the ‘bogging out’, he not only found that the diaphragm had been split & the jets blocked; but the return spring inside had been stretched & bent, meaning the carb couldn’t function correctly.
With the agreement of the customer, the parts are now on order & we hope they will arrive next week.
On Wednesday Daniel was tasked with replacing the ignition switch to a Triumph 1050 Speed Triple.
Although the switch was ordered off the chassis number, it came with the wrong plug. The loom on the Speed Triple is too short as standard, causing the wiring to snap at the switch so Daniel put things right by extending the new loom by 100mm to avoid the same fault happening again.
On Thursday, while Daniel waited on parts, he took advantage of a few free moments & turned his attention to his Ducati.
The Ducati has now a cambelt change & oil & filter change.
A good customer of ours wanted a bit of colour on his BMW Scooter, here’s the outcome.
If you have a idea for your bike & would like to make it happen give us a call.
Sprocket has now been with us for a full two months & it is fair to say this growing bundle of fluff has most definitely changed our lived for the better. He is remarkably well behaved, with the odd moment of lunacy thrown in for good measure!
This coming weekend we have the first of our Open Mornings. For our January Blues Breakfast & Open Morning on Sunday 2nd February we will be holding a raffle (as we will at all of our events) to raise funds for the Amicii Dog Rescue where we adopted our fabulous Sprocket from.
As always, for all your motorcycling needs contact Daniel or Katy on T: 01243 576212 / 07899 654446 or contact us through our contact page.
