mono motorcycles diary continues to swell as the summer months advance. Over the past few weeks we have seen more & more diverse motorcycles come through our doors.

The new TEXA diagnostics equipment has already started to show it’s versatility. We currently have a stunning GSXR 600 in the workshop,  initially in for fork seal replacements & a service. Daniel managed to identify through the TEXA diagnostic, that the GSXR 600 TPS  (throttle position sensor) was out of alignment. This was causing the GSXR to ‘hunt’ on tick over. This was subsequently rectified & the revs regulated by adjusting the TPS sensor.

Once the TPS was regulated, Daniel turned his attention to the forks. An issue arose when Daniel Morris of mono motorcycles & vehicle security, was unable to undo the nut on the top of the fork leg. Despite using all of his weight & an air gun, it wouldn’t move.! This proves that in real time, not all processes are as straight forward as they should be.

Having advised our customer of the dilemma, the GSXR owner managed to find an immaculate set of second hand forks . We have now fitted genuine fork seals to the second hand forks & replaced the oil as a precautionary procedure, as we obviously cannot tell the age of the fork seals.

Ensuring fork seals are correctly handled is imperative to optimise performance & for safety reasons.  There are ‘quick fixes’ which can be learnt about on certain online sites, but if you want to ensure any kind of longevity & consider the safety of your motorcycle; using genuine parts, we feel, is the only way to go forward.

We have welcomed back a Harley Davidson custom to the workshop.  Daniel Morris of mono motorcycles & vehicle security undertook a full service & other functional fittings recently. The Harley’s owner took her for an extensive ride beyond our initial works & after 100 miles, the drive belt snapped! As per the nature of Harley Davidson components, sourcing them is never easy. Lead times for these items vary from 7-10 working days.

As is the nature of motorcycle service & repair, hold ups in returning motorcycles to their owners, are inevitable, especially for the more rare imports.  mono motorcycles & vehicle security pride ourselves on our sourcing capabilities & continue to build relationships with market leaders both here in the UK & in the international markets.

mono motorcycles & vehicle security have been given the green light to regenerate the Buell Firebolt XB12R. This is a major undertaking for mono motorcycles & vehicle security. The main crank components are currently on their way to the Netherlands to be rebuilt by Buell specialists. Upon their return, the Buell will finally be brought back to life after standing silent for over five years.

A Ducati 848 joined us at the beginning of the week.  After the 848 had been knocked over in a public car park, she had sprung a radiator leak. Having discovered that a new radiator from Ducati would cost in excess of £1000, the Ducati was collected & brought to mono motorcycles. Daniel Morris of mono motorcycles & vehicle security managed to seal the crack between the radiator fins with chemical metal. This is a temporary fix , which the customer is aware of, but it does enable the Ducati to get back on the road & enjoy the summer sunshine.

When it comes to major engine part complications, we always recommend you seek professional help. As already mentioned above, there are many ways & means to ‘learn’ how to ‘fix’ motorcycles online. However, you are of course bound by an unknown quantity in this case. One such tale of ‘home repairs’ we have recently heard of, was a gentleman who had incorrectly fitted his brake pads. This caused the brakes to jam on & sadly, this caused the rider to be involved in an accident, where injuries were incurred. If in doubt, contact a professional.

mono motorcycles & vehicle security always offer the very advice & service to all of our customers. A Kawasaki Zephyr, with great sentimental value, joined us this week. The owner was very keen to have the Zephyr back on the road. mono motorcycles were able to offer a full carb clean/rebuild to get the Zephyr running correctly.

Due to the nature of the age of the motorcycle, mono motorcycles did advise the customer that some of the components inside the carbs were deteriorating. The customer didn’t at this point want the components replaced, but was happy to see the carbs so clean. Upon further inspection, the rust in the tank could have proven an additional problem for the rider going forward. Therefore, the decision was made to add an additional fuel filter, to alleviate any complications as the fuel circulated.

A Harley Davidson FLHRXS joined us for some wiring upgrades  & a Triumph Tiger XC joined us for  a full service,  new brake pads & service light indicator switch off. The TEXA diagnostics software, was back in the frame for the Triumph & enabled the customer to ride away with that service indicator light off.
