Motorcycle service, repair, diagnostics, wiring, charity event and Seasons Greetings

Blog

These past few weeks have been full on.

First a fully festive family long weekend away in Gloucester, then our successful Charity Christmas Quiz in aid of SERV and a full diary. As we head towards our festive break, we take a little look at just some of the bikes we have welcomed to mono motorcycles in the past few weeks.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Royal Enfield Classic 500

We are seeing more and more examples of the Royal Enfield range at our workshop. A couple of weeks ago we welcomed a stunning Royal Enfield Meteor 350 which joined us for pre-sales checks and TEXA Diagnostic scans and a Royal Enfield Classic 500 which joined us for servicing and pre-sales checks. Two great sales from DJK Motorcycles Ltd

Remember we can service motorcycles under warranty and have the very latest TEXA UK Diagnostic technology to reset service lights and undertake a wealth of diagnostic procedures.

Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST

We first met the owner of the Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST at our September breakfast club. He was originally toying with investing in a new bike.

However, the engine of his GSX1250FA ST was still sound at 60,000 miles and the body work was intact.

Therefore, he decided to invest the money in some upgrades including a wheel refurbishment, uprated fork springs, a new rear shock, Major Servicing, rear rack refurbishment, powder coating casings, repairs to fairing, brake pads and a deep clean.

Our customer was very happy with the end result and the bike looks great.

Honda VFR 750

We welcomed a very tidy Honda VFR 750 to the workshop only last week. The bike had recently been serviced elsewhere, but shortly after the customer noted a fuel smell.

Under investigation the plastic fuel pipe going directly into the carb was leaking quite badly.

Once we had authorisation from our customer to proceed with the purchase of the pipe, we were able to rectify the leak for him.

Suzuki Versys 1050

Be prepared. A good motto to have as a motorcycle owner.

Another motorcycle which has joined us recently was a regular Suzuki V-Strom 1050. The bike was booked in for an Interim Service and brake pads.

Upon receipt it was noted that a repair in the rear tyre was leaking. It was also noted that the chain was very rusty and also very loose.

Having spoken with the customer, he authorised the purchase of another rear tyre and a new chain/sprocket kit. As the bike does a lot of miles, this was a sensible solution for the issues which had been presented. However, this did mean that the customers final invoice was considerably more that the initial booking.

Here at mono motorcycles, we pride ourselves on our transparency. Every booking is confirmed with a confirmation email which includes estimated costs, so the customer has an idea of how to budget. We also never order additional parts without having sought the approval of our customers.

Ducati SS 600

The Ducati joined us after the customer advised he had been riding and suddenly black smoke poured from the dash area.

Our initial thoughts were it could have been a trapped wire. However, under investigation we uncovered a burnt out reg/rec, this then led us to the stator wires which were shorting out on the frame.

Further investigations found both the starter and earth leads burnt and a battery which had boiled dry! This was caused by the reg/rec not being able to cope with the charging, this then over charged the battery, in turn caused the battery to overheat and then buckled the plates in the battery. On top of this when cranking, the low voltage in the battery caused a spike in the amperage when the starter was cranked and this in turn melted the cables.

As you can imagine, the repairs were extensive and were a financial investment by the customer.

Having provided the customer with an estimated idea of repairs and parts required, he authorised the repairs.

All the wiring was repaired, uprated power cables were fitted, a new reg/rec was fitted and then the bike was charging. However, as we were unable to get the bike running at receipt, we were not aware that its starter motor was failing. With the customers authorisation we purchased a new starter motor and with that fitted the bike is now starting and charging as it should do.

This is a prime example of how quickly what we think is going to be a couple of hours work can turn into six hours and another example of the ‘be prepared’ motto spoken about above.

Triumph Rocket III Trike

We welcomed back the stunning Triumph Rocket III Trike which joined us for a replacement clutch, heated grips, additional rear indicators, fitting a new front tyre and wiring in a SAT Nav.
