Motorcycle service, repair, wiring and CCM Motorcycles Approved Service Centre

Blog

It’s been another diverse week this week and another week of good news for mono motorcycles.

CCM Motorcycles.

The big news of the week is that mono motorcycles have been invited to become an approved CCM Motorcycles Service Centre.

We are very grateful to one of our customers (a CCM owner) who recommended us to CCM Motorcycles, and we look forward to working with CCM and their customer base in the South of England.

Mini wiring.

Our week has been dominated by a four wheeled guest in the shape of a Mini. The Mini used to have a Yamaha R1 engine and has had a motogadget system fitted.

The owner has removed the R1 engine and replaced it with a Mini engine. Although the motogadget runs the lighting system, the rest of the wiring needs to be reconfigured. Therefore, Daniel is wiring up the engine, fuel pump and the motogadget dash.

Once Daniel had removed the front end of the Mini he was able to gain access to the engine bay and start the wiring process.

To gain access to the rest of the wiring Daniel had to remove one of the seats, as there is not much room inside.

It is always interesting working on vehicles which have been wired by others, especially when they only use red or black wires for the main fuse box and there’s no wiring diagram!

This meant that Daniel had to test each wire, work out it’s load and then work out which component and or part of the Mini each wire controls.

Motorcycle service season has begun.

The sun has started to peep out from behind the clouds and the phone has not stopped ringing.

Some of the bikes which were booked in some months ago include a Suzuki GSXS1000 for Full Servicing and for us to apply wheel rim stickers.

We have also welcomed a Triumph Bonneville SE for an interim service and to assess why the rear brake was binding. Transpires that whoever had adjusted the brakes previously, had used the wrong type of grease. Copper slip had been used when it should have been silicone based.

At the end of this week, we welcomed back a BMW R1200R which we have been servicing pretty much since we started at New Barn Offices. Our customer keeps up his regular servicing schedules and always books well in advance to secure the service anniversary date.

Tyres.

We are now stocking a collection of some of our bestselling tyres. One of our customers who booked his bike in with us months ago, took advantage of the Michelin Road 6’s we had in stock and his exact words were “Wow! Just wow. Rode home and the bike felt so good. Can’t wait to scrub them in and see how they perform on a spirited ride”

Suzuki GSX-R 750 Slingshot has gone home.

For those regular readers and followers of the mono motorcycles story, you will know that we have been undertaking a full ground up nut and bolt restoration of a Suzuki GSX-R 750 Slingshot.

The bike arrived in boxes late in 2022 and although some of the original parts were there and usable, a large proportion of the parts were either missing or not fit for purpose.

After a year of building – including a full engine strip and cerakote, sourcing parts, getting the nose cone repaired and resprayed, full Dyno and an MOT, the GSX-R has now been reunited with her owner. The owner has owned the bike since new, hence the reason for the £15K restoration investment.
