Performance sports bikes, tourer’s & cruisers at mono motorcycles
The mono motorcycles diary saw some high performance machines through our doors this week.
We welcomed 2 motorcycles from MCi tours this week. The BMW1200GS & KTM 1050 Adventure. Due to the nature of the lifestyle these motorcycles lead, they are used extensively as business vehicles for the MCi tours programme.
The BMW1200GS joined us for a replacement rear tyre, brake bleed & interim service.
However, the KTM 1050 Adventure returned to the workshop after a trip to Slovenia for servicing & to assess a coolant loss. During her most recent trip, her owner had noted coolant seemed to be escaping from somewhere & despite it being topped up, the KTM didn’t seem to want to hold enough fluid.
After completing a compression test & draining & refilling the radiator & the header tank being marked to show it’s level; the KTM will now need to be ridden for a few hundred miles to ascertain if it is still losing fluids. We fitted new chain & sprockets to the KTM while she was with us. With an average 3K -4K per tour, the MCi Tours KTM really is put through her paces.
The Kermit Green Kawasaki ZX6R joined us at the beginning of the week for new tyres & a valve clearance check.
During the valve check, Daniel discovered that the timing chain tensioner had worn, which was why the ZX6R rattled upon ignition. This will be replaced once the part has arrived from Kawasaki.
The first of our performance BMW’s joined us on Tuesday.
The BMW S1000RR HP4 joined us for servicing & quickshifter reset. Using the TEXA diagnostic machine & a lot of industry knowledge, the procedure to reset the adaption values on a BMW 1000RR HP4 quickshifter involves having the motorcycle on a paddock stand & being substantially tied down & revving to . 10,000RPM. This procedure is monitored by the TEXA Diagnostic during the entire procedure & is not to be undertaken by an un-trained technician.
A shimmering example of Harley Davidson evolution joined us on Wednesday.
The VROD joined us for servicing, an MOT & wiring up of new indicator wing mirrors. The VROD owner had also asked us to assess a rattle from the exhaust upon ignition.
Daniel managed to tighten the exhaust in place while it was hot & this seemed, in the first instance, to cure the issue. We have agreed with the customer for him to try this as a solution. However, if the rattle returns, we would have to strip the entire exhaust system & remove all of the chrome to be able to see inside.
On Thursday, the entire world remembered D Day 75 6 June 1944 – 6 June 2019.
Poignant speeches, displays & commemorations were held in the UK & in Normandy all with one message: Lest We Forget. We honour our war dead & thank the veterans for the sacrifices they made for our freedom
Thursday Daniel managed to take a moment to attend to the Triumph 765 RS. Oil & filter change & chain clean. The next phase will be a wheel bearing replacement & headstock bearings.
Thursday evening we attended the Hayling Bike Night at the Ferryboat Inn on Hayling Island.
Katy’s father celebrates his 75th birthday this month & to celebrate, members of Hayling Bike Night, South Coast Bikers & friends honoured him with a parade ride along Hayling seafront. Kev Peplow took Katy’s Dad on the trike & so very many wonderful bikers honoured Katy’s Dad by riding with him.
Thank you Beardy Dan, Colin Stevens, Daniel Morris, Kev Peplow & everyone who made this evening so very special. What a fantastic community we all belong to. Thank you everyone, it made Katy’s Dad so very happy & he loved every minute of it.
The second of our performance BMW’s joined us on Friday.
The scarlet red BMWS1000XR joined us for a major service & full diagnostic sweep.
