Quad bike service & repairs, Havant, Hampshire

Blog

This week at mono motorcycles Havant, we have been completing a major overhaul, service & repairs to a Quadzillia quad bike.

The 2008 Quadzilla is used for both on and off road & although the motor was very strong; everything around it was needing some love. Therefore it was brought to mono motorcycles & vehicle security for service, repairs, an overhaul & upgrade.

Pulling off the panels/wheels to gain access to the suspension, I started with stripping & replacing the steering bearings/rear axle. The headstock was straight forward enough, but the rear axle, that was a different story!

The rear chain is adjusted by an eccentric bearing that rotates around the inside of the rear axle (same as a Ducati single side swing arm). The bearings on the chain side had gone, just leaving the outer race in a blind insert. With a bit of head scratching I welded an old bolt to the outer race so I could then knock the bearing race out. The added heat from welding the bearings, helped to expand the alloy casing.

The quad exhaust was pretty mangled, so I pulled it apart and welded new tags & made a new joining flange. With it all back together, the exhaust sounds much better and now it won’t fall off! New chain, sprockets, clutch, fluids, pads followed.

In addition to the service & repairs, mono motorcycles also made several upgrades to the Quad bike.

I replaced the old handle bars with ‘Fat bars’,  new risers, levers & speedo. The customer wanted to move & replace the speedo, as he wanted a more motorcross look to the quad.  This was a lot of work as it involved removing the reverse cable & switch, ignition switch and speedo & drilling in to a panel to relocate the speedo. But well worth it as the customer was very happy with the final results.
