mono motorcycles busy & varied diary, track days & a host of events.

Blog

Autumn has arrived. Along with shorter days, there is a distinct chill in the air early morning & the autumn sun sits lower in the evening sky.

Leaves are turning golden & falling like confetti, leaving trees bare & skeletal against the autumnal skyline. We have finally had some rain & we have had some evenings where frost seems to have been lurking close to the ground.

For some bikers Autumn arriving is the time when they start to consider putting their bikes away for winter. For others its time to consider changing the tyres, turning on the heated grips & carrying on as normal. For our customers Autumn is often the time to think about winter servicing or getting those projects underway which might stop biking in the warmer weather.

With this in mind, lets have a look at what has been in the mono motorcycles workshop these past couple of weeks & what the mono motorcycles team are up to at the workshop & how their events calendar is shaping up!

Honda CBR 929 Fireblade – Charging issues

Following a recent trip to France, the recommissioned Honda CBR929 Fireblade ‘Comfy Sports Tourer’ conversion we completed a couple of month ago, started to not hold a charge.

We think we might have found out why when we took the stator casing off & the stator windings were all black! BTW – stators are not meant to be black/burnt inside! Definitely time for a  new reg/rec – stator combo for the CBR.

In this case the customer chose to go with non genuine parts. We generally do not recommend pattern stators for some manufacturers as we have found them to not be as robust as genuine parts. This is from personal experience & if a customer chooses an alternative, we will fit their choice.

BMW R1250GS – Translogic Powershifter Tip-Tronic Gearshifter

Our customer having purchased a new BMW R1250GS, sadly discovered that a mobility issue with his foot got worse with riding. On longer journeys our customers mobility was impaired to the point where manual control of the standard gear shift pedal was almost impossible.

Seeking a solution which allow him to have a system which could potentially alleviate the pressure on his foot when needed, but also give him manual control; his research lead him to the Translogic Powershifter Tip-Tronic Gearshifter.

Having already supported the customer with some security upgrades, he asked us if we would be interested in supporting the supply & installation of the Translogic Powershifter Tip-Tronic Gearshifter. Once we looked into the product the decision was a no brainer, the answer was of course yes.

The Translogic Powershifter Tip-Tronic Gearshifter is the smallest motorcycle gearshifter drive system in the world. The soft-start-drive design provides the perfect shift with easy neutral selection & is designed to perform in the most gruelling conditions. The unit is sealed, salt spray tested, environmentally endurance passed & has a reversible drive for Road or Race applications. (1)

“What impresses us both at mono motorcycles is the game changing possibilities the Translogic Powershifter Tip-Tronic Gearshifter has for those with mobility issues, amputees or riders who are paralyzed, as has been seen in the case of Wayne Rainey’s ride up the Goodwood hill at the Festival of Speed 2022” Daniel & Katy, mono motorcycles

Kawasaki ZZSR1100 – Full Service

We service motorcycles all year around, not only at the beginning of the biking season, usually around March time. We do try & encourage a steady stream servicing throughout the winter to avoid the inevitable panic come Spring time.

The Kawasaki ZZR1100 is one example of this mindset. Our customer having recently purchased the bike, wanted to ensure it was fully serviced, before it being put away for thew winter months. Wil the servicing having already been completed, the bike will be ready to get straight out on the road next Spring. For more information about our Servicing packages, please see https://monomotorcycles.co.uk/service-repair/

Honda CB200 –  Customisation

We are currently well underway with a full customisation project for one of our customers.

The Honda CB200 came to us all original with only 326 miles on the clock.  Having extensively modified the frame to create a hoop rear end & started to create a bespoke hand made headlight assembly; the engine was removed & stripped in advance of cerakoting.

BMW S1000XR – Accident damage

Sometimes the most damage to a motorcycle can be caused by the slowest of crashes. Our BMW S1000XR customer lost the bike at only a few miles an hour & although on the surface the damage did not look extensive (side stand switch was badly damaged) the superficial parts which needed to be replaced still came in at over £600 & that was just for the parts.

Daniel Track Days

You may have noticed the odd Track Day photograph sneaking into our social media feeds.

Daniel has rekindled his passion for the track tis year with his Suzuki GSXR 750 & he is loving being back at the track.

The week commencing 3rd October he managed two in a week. On the Monday he shot up to Brands Hatch & spent the day on the Indy circuit, while on Thursday he headed up to Donnington.
