mono motorcycles new unit at New Barn, Funtington is full of customers motorcycles, some for service & repair, others being diagnosed for wiring faults, carburettor rebuilds, fork replacements, detailing & security products. It’s never a dull moment at mono motorcycles & vehicle security.
We started this week with fitting a DATATOOL S4 into a BMW R1200GS. This always proves to be a challenge with the can-bus electrics!
We also removed a faulty old alarm from a tidy Triumph 959 Spirit ST with a mere 90,000 miles on the clock. Proof that a well looked after machine will run & run!
One of our classic projects this week is the Suzuki TL1000R. We pulled her from a damp garage where she had been sat for 3 years. Flat tyres & seized brakes made for an entertaining collection, as we also had to move her up a 30 degree inclined driveway, in five inches of snow! However, with a full service, fluids, brake overhaul & a full detail; she’s back on the road.

You may remember, if you have read our previous posts, we have a Ducati 996 in for a restoration. We have had to rebuild the engine for a second time as the “Ducati specialist” who assembled the engine originally, prior to mono motorcycles taking on the project; did so without cleaning the shot blast media out of the castings causing the water pump seal to fail & sand to get in to the oil! Well, we have finally had it running a few days ago which was music to our ears!

Another recommissioning is a little ZXR400 which belongs to the proprietor of another unit on our site at New Barn, Funtington. This little pocket rocket has not been used for 18 months so we are going through it, overhauling the brakes, carbs, bearings & tyres. We will finish off with a full detail so it’s ready for the summer.

Coming up in the next few weeks we have a brand new BMW S1000RR in for some security upgrades: a 1990 FZR1000 exup in for recommissioning which has not turned a wheel in ten years! Various services, a KTM RC8R for a quick shifter & modded exhaust & Harley Davidson for an engine swap. No two days are the same at mono motorcycles & vehicle security; variety really is the spice of life!
